How To Motivate Yourself – Self Motivation

Staying motivated is a struggle — our drive is constantly assaulted by negative thoughts and anxiety about the future. Everyone faces doubt and depression. What separates the highly successful is the ability to keep moving forward.
There is no simple solution for a lack of motivation. Even after beating it, the problem reappears at the first sign of failure. The key is understanding your thoughts and how they drive your emotions. By learning how to nurture motivating thoughts, neutralize negative ones, and focus on the task at hand, you can pull yourself out of a slump before it gains momentum.

Reasons We Lose Motivation

There are 3 primary reasons we lose motivation.

  1. Lack of confidence – If you don’t believe you can succeed, what’s the point in trying?

  2. Lack of focus – If you don’t know what you want, do you really want anything?

  3. Lack of direction – If you don’t know what to do, how can you be motivated to do it?

How to Boost Confidence

The first motivation killer is a lack of confidence. When this happens to me, it’s usually because I’m focusing entirely on what I want and neglecting what I already have. When you only think about what you want, your mind creates explanations for why you aren’t getting it. This creates negative thoughts. Past failures, bad breaks, and personal weaknesses dominate your mind. You become jealous of your competitors and start making excuses for why you can’t succeed. In this state, you tend to make a bad impression, assume the worst about others, and lose self confidence.
The way to get out of this thought pattern is to focus on gratitude. Set aside time to focus on everything positive in your life. Make a mental list of your strengths, past successes, and current advantages. We tend to take our strengths for granted and dwell on our failures. By making an effort to feel grateful, you’ll realize how competent and successful you already are. This will rejuvenate your confidence and get you motivated to build on your current success.
It might sound strange that repeating things you already know can improve your mindset, but it’s amazingly effective. The mind distorts reality to confirm what it wants to believe. The more negatively you think, the more examples your mind will discover to confirm that belief. When you truly believe that you deserve success, your mind will generate ways to achieve it. The best way to bring success to yourself is to genuinely desire to create value for the rest of the world.

Developing Tangible Focus

The second motivation killer is a lack of focus. How often do you focus on what you don’t want, rather than on a concrete goal? We normally think in terms of fear. I’m afraid of being poor. I’m afraid no one will respect me. I’m afraid of being alone. The problem with this type of thinking is that fear alone isn’t actionable. Instead of doing something about our fear, it feeds on itself and drains our motivation.
If you’re caught up in fear based thinking, the first step is focusing that energy on a well defined goal. By defining a goal, you automatically define a set of actions. If you have a fear of poverty, create a plan to increase your income. It could be going back to school, obtaining a higher paying job, or developing a profitable website. The key is moving from an intangible desire to concrete, measurable steps.
By focusing your mind on a positive goal instead of an ambiguous fear, you put your brain to work. It instantly begins devising a plan for success. Instead of worrying about the future you start to do something about it. This is the first step in motivating yourself to take action. When know what you want, you become motivated to take action.

Developing Direction

The final piece in the motivational puzzle is direction. If focus means having an ultimate goal, direction is having a day-to-day strategy to achieve it. A lack of direction kills motivation because without an obvious next action we succumb to procrastination. An example of this is a person who wants to have a popular blog, but who spends more time reading posts about blogging than actually writing articles.
The key to finding direction is identifying the activities that lead to success. For every goal, there are activities that pay off and those that don’t. Make a list of all your activities and arrange them based on results. Then make a make an action plan that focuses on the activities that lead to big returns. To continue the example from above, a blogger’s list would look something like this:

  1. Write content

  2. Research relevant topics

  3. Network with other bloggers

  4. Optimize design and ad placements

  5. Answer comments and email

  6. Read other blogs

Keeping track of your most important tasks will direct your energy towards success. Without a constant reminder, it’s easy to waste entire days on filler activities like reading RSS feeds, email, and random web surfing.
When my motivation starts to wane, I regain direction by creating a plan that contains two positive actions. The first one should be a small task you’ve been meaning to do, while the second should be a long-term goal. I immediately do the smaller task. This creates positive momentum. After that I take the first step towards achieving the long-term goal. Doing this periodically is great for getting out of a slump, creating positive reinforcement, and getting long-term plans moving.

It’s inevitable that you’ll encounter periods of low energy, bad luck, and even the occasional failure. If you don’t discipline your mind, these minor speed bumps can turn into mental monsters. By being on guard against the top 3 motivation killers you can preserve your motivation and propel yourself to success.
Confidence is KEY to keeping motivated. If you’ve ever wondered exactly how self confident you actually are.

A Review of MyVideoDesigner by MyVideoTalk

MyVideoDesigner

The internet changed the way that many businesses chose to market themselves, with an effective online marketing campaign sometimes meaning the difference between success and failure and MyVideoDesigner by MyVideoTalk is a Game Changer.

In the beginning that meant trying to find ways to drive traffic to a static website, but as technology evolved, the methods used to reach customers online changed too. E-mail marketing became a very large part of any campaign, and when the social network scene exploded, companies began to take a more personal approach in reaching out to potential customers. As luck would have it, there is now a perfect way to combine both of those aspects into a single marketing campaign, and it’s only one part of the entire MyVideoTalk package.

It’s long been known that customers respond better to advertising that reaches them on a personal level, which is why the social networks works so well, and now with MyVideoDesigner, you can make a video that you can embed in any e-mail or newsletter, and that will allow the customer to get a better feel for who you are, and what the philosophy of your business is. That may sound like something that would be difficult for those who aren’t particularly tech savvy, but MyVideoDesigner is set up in a way that makes it easy to use for even the newest of computer users.

It all starts with loading your full size banner or company logo, and then customizing the video e-mail so that it perfectly matches the style and color of your brand. You are in full control of the easy to use design process, and your customers will believe that you must have spent a great deal of money, given the great look and production values. It’s one thing to set up your video easily, but what happens when it lands in the inbox of your customer? The video e-mail that you create will work perfectly and look fantastic on any platform, including Firefox, Chrome, Explorer, and any other one you care to mention.

This is all done in a matter of minutes, and what you decide to include in the video is entirely up to you. In fact, when you think about it, the possibilities are virtually endless. You may just want to get word out about a new service or product that your business is offering, or you may just want to take a minute to talk about an upcoming sale or promotion. Another great way to use MyVideoDesigner is to show people exactly how your product works in simple, step by step visual instructions. Whatever you decide to use it for, you can have your message out in a matter of minutes, and look great doing so. The new world of internet marketing means getting up close and personal with your customers, and using MyVideoDesigner may very well be the most effective way to do so.

Psychological Benefits of a Healthy Diet

Immunotec Psychological Benefits of a Healthy Diet

Psychological Benefits of a Healthy Diet

The foods you eat can affect how your brain functions, and can alter both your mood and behavior, according to the Encyclopedia of Mental Disorders or EMD. When you are hungry you may become short-tempered or impatient. Eating a satisfying meal can leave you feeling relaxed and content. When your brain is deprived of proper vitamins, minerals and other nutrients such as protein, your problem-solving abilities may wane and you may experience memory lapses. Eating a healthy diet has a number of psychological benefits.

Promotes Brain Health

Certain foods that are part of a nutritionally balanced diet seem to protect brain cells and may lower the risk of stroke and heart disease, reports the Alzheimer’s Association.

Dark-skinned vegetables and fruits typically contain large amounts of antioxidants. Examples include broccoli, beets, spinach, kale, onion, red bell pepper, blueberries, blackberries, oranges, red grapes, prunes and raisins.

Other brain-healthy foods include omega-3 rich fish such as halibut, salmon and tuna. Certain nuts such almonds, pecans and walnuts support proper brain function due to their high vitamin E content.

Reduces Anxiety

A healthy diet can make you feel better and may help diminish anxiety, according to the Mayo Clinic. Increasing your intake of complex carbohydrates such as whole grains may boost serotonin levels in your brain, which can help calm your nerves. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter in the brain that affects sleep, mood and memory.

Helps Ward off Depression

Eating healthy meals can have a positive impact on your mood. In fact, a well-balanced diet can reduce stress and help prevent depression when it’s accompanied with adequate sleep and relaxation techniques such as meditation and yoga, notes the University of Michigan Health System, or UMHS.

Feelings of depression can range from mild to severe. If you have been feeling down for more than two weeks, talk to your health care provider. You may be suffering from clinical depression, and may require medications or therapy.

Relieves PMS Symptoms

A healthy diet that limits the amount of salt, sugar and caffeine may help diminish the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome, PMS. Approximately one-third of pre-menopausal women suffer from PMS, according to the Cleveland Clinic. The psychological symptoms of PMS may include anxiety, irritability, moodiness, aggression and problems concentrating.

Optimistic people versus Pessimistic

Optimistic people versus Pessimistic

People with an optimistic outlook on life always seem able to look on the bright side of things. Turns out, they may literally be made that way. Scientists at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging at University College London published a study this week showing that the optimistic are different from the rest of us on a fundamental, neurological level.

The study shows that optimistic people tend to learn only from information that reinforces their sunny outlook. While it may be helpful in trying times, the trait is essentially due to “faulty” functioning in the frontal lobes of their brains.

“Seeing the glass as half full rather than half empty can be a positive thing – it can lower stress and anxiety and be good for our health and well-being,” said Dr. Tali Sharot. “But it can also mean that we are less likely to take precautionary action, such as practising safe sex or saving for retirement. So why don’t we learn from cautionary information?”

To find out, investigators examined the brain function of 19 volunteers using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), which shows changes in brain activity in real time.

The subjects were presented with a variety of negative life events, such as contracting diseases, or having a car stolen, and were asked to estimate the likelihood that such an event could happen to them. Later they were told the actual, statistical probability of such an event happening in a given person’s lifetime.

After that the subjects were asked to re-estimate their own chances of suffering such setbacks. Subjects adjusted their estimates, but only in instances where the actual probabilities they’d been given were better than they had originally estimated.

If the actual probabilities were worse, they tended to ignore the information. Good news showed up on the brain scans as increased activity in the frontal cortex, but bad news tended not to elicit such activity in the brains of optimistic people.

“Our study suggests that we pick and choose the information that we listen to,” said Dr. Sharot. “The more optimistic we are, the less likely we are to be influenced by negative information about the future. This can have benefits for our mental health, but there are obvious downsides. Many experts believe the financial crisis in 2008 was precipitated by analysts overestimating the performance of their assets even in the face of clear evidence to the contrary.”

So I ask you; Is your Glass half empty or half full? This may vary well make a determination on your success and your health!

Are Your Goals Buried In The Basement?

“The following article is a guest post by Tara West: http://www.tara-west.com

Are Your Goals Buried In The Basement?

buriedalive1.1226985359 Are Your Goals Buried In The Basement?

Whilst we have good intentions at the beginning of a new year in setting goals, it’s a bit like planting something in your garden.

We love what we’ve planted and so we begin to water it and look after it. There’s a growth spurt so we water it some more. Then some distractions enter our life, and we forget to water it, suddenly the weeds encroach on what we’ve planted, and it dies. It’s a bit like goals.

Harvard Medical School conducted a study and the results were quite amazing. 70% of people who set goals don’t achieve them. However, 98% of people who call them Promises achieved their goal.

That’s a startling difference, don’t you agree? Would you prefer to be in the 98% or the 30% who achieve their goals?

America’s billionaire, Bill Bartmann (named as “One of the Top 100 Entrepreneurs of the Last 100 Years”), has a fantastic 10-step process for setting and keeping your Promises:

  1. Ensure it’s YOUR goal, your vision, your quest; not someone else’s. “Our life is the most precious asset we have” Bill Bartmann. Don’t give up your dreams to make someone else happy.
  2. Call your goals a ‘PROMISE’. Our brain is an amazing instrument. It is usually inherent within us to keep our promises… when we promise to do X by X date, our brain and our heart kicks in and we want to fulfil that promise. On the other hand, our brain can associate goals with failure. Think about that for a minute. How many times have you promised something either to yourself or someone else, and you fulfilled that promise? Then think about how many times you have set goals and the amount of times you achieved those goals. Promises will outweigh goals.
  3. Clearly identify your Promise. Don’t be vague. Instead of saying I would like to lose weight, be specific… how much weight would you like to lose and by when?
  4. Use the tools around you as motivators to keep you going. Positive motivators may be the people you love – negative motivators may be those who say you can’t do it;  prove them wrong and use it as a driving influence.
  5. Create a Promise Plan. Promises aren’t promises until you’ve written them down. Define what your Promise is; when you will achieve your Promise; where you will be when it happens; why you want it; who you need help from to fulfil your Promise; and an ongoing list of how you will fulfil your Promise. It is not necessary to know ALL of the how… have faith that you will find the answers as your travel through the journey. Bill Bartmann provided a great story as it relates to the how:You have set off on a 200 mile trip in the dark. Your headlights are on which shines a 200ft path for you, which you follow. You don’t need the headlights to shine up the whole 200 miles… you only need to know each 200ft to get there. Your ‘how’ is like the 200ft path. You don’t need to know the whole 200 miles.
  6. Review your plan and Promise on a regular basis: 20 MINUTES EVERY DAY. By doing so, the how will materialise and the pieces come together. You are melding your conscious and subconscious which will give you the answers you need. Create a Tangible Vision of your Promise and stick it in a prominent place where you can see it every day.
  7. Remove any negative thoughts from your mind and tell yourself you WILL succeed. Feed your mind with positive affirmations. You could do this by sticking them near your computer, on your mirror or wherever else you see fit. Another great method is recording your affirmations and then playing them as you drift off to sleep.
  8. Inform others of your Promise… don’t hide them in the cupboard! Commit to your Promise and share your vision.
  9. Envision the results. Play your own mind movie and picture yourself already there. Mark Victor Hansen and Robert Allen cite a great exercise in their book ‘Cash In A Flash’. Write an article (from a journalist’s perspective) that appears about YOU and your Promise… imagine a journalist writing about your accomplishments – it’s made front page news!
  10. START! Do something now, today, to begin your Promise Journey.
