WORDS THAT SELL

Studies have shown that 5 times as many people will read your

headline as will read the body of your text. How well it attracts

readers, moreover, the right kind of readers, will determine the

success of your written material.

As a Coach, much of your information comes across in the written

word: articles, web copy, workbooks, e-courses, marketing materials,

etc. If you aren’t speaking to your Target Audience’s greatest

challenges, needs and desires, you aren’t making the connections

necessary to compel your readers to learn more.

The challenge that arises is getting people to take notice of your

article, web site, marketing material above all the other “information

chatter” and read your message all the way through.

Some basic components of great headlines include these elements:

1. Clarity

Keep the headline clear and easily understood so the reader

immediately knows what the copy is about. If it expresses

something that is of concern to them, they will continue to read

on. Try not to over generalize your headline.

2. Target

Speak directly to your Target Audience.

People love to find out more about themselves. The more targeted the better. You will stand out and attract exactly who you are looking for.

3. Benefits

Describe tangible benefits. If I am looking for this benefit, I will

keep reading. Knowing your audience is essential to

understanding the benefits. The more you know their pains,

challenges, and fears, the more you will understand their

desires.

This one can be a challenge for many coaches. We often focus

on what we have to offer. This is very logical and very left-brain.

People are attracted through right-brain thinking. This is the

emotional side. So if you have a list of features instead think

about the feelings these features evoke; think about the

possibilities changes offer; think about success stories you can

share.
