Applications on Facebook seem to foster a love/hate relationship with the social network’s users. On one hand, many users enjoy Facebook apps for the daily diversion they offer. Time killers such as Mafia Wars, Farmville, and the plethora of other existing apps can help you escape from the everyday grind. Although plenty of Facebook users love partaking in applications fun, it seems as if just as many, if not more, cannot stand them. Of course, nobody has to use an app if they don’t want to, but if a friend does, any updates, scores, etc. that come from using the app will appear on friends’ walls.

If you find nothing wrong with receiving app updates or invitations from time to time, stop reading. However, if you are up to your neck in app posts on your wall and want to get rid of them, there are a few solutions at your disposal, so get ready to study and apply them.

Let’s say one particular app keeps pestering your profile. You can simply block it to avoid future interruptions. When you completely block an app, it means that you will not be bothered by it in the future in any shape or form. Not only will you stop receiving invitations to participate, but you will also be excluded from viewing updates on your own or your friends’ walls.

To block an app that has made its way onto your newsfeed, find a post from it and click on the app’s name or icon. You will be taken to a Request for Permission page, where Facebook will state that the app is requesting your permission to access certain information. On that page, click on the app’s name once again. This will open a window that leads to the app’s Facebook profile.

On the left-hand side of the profile, you will see the Block App option. Clicking on it will activate a popup window. By selecting block in the popup window, you will not only stop seeing the app on profiles, but you will also prevent the app from collecting information on you.

What if you dislike all apps equally? You can block them all at once quite quickly.  Go to the Account menu and click on Privacy Settings. Under Apps and Websites, click Edit your settings. Next to the Apps you use section, click on Turn off all platform apps. Selecting this will disconnect you from the app world in an instant.

You also have other options when it comes to app management on Facebook, and they come via plug-ins. The Better Facebook plug-ins can separate app updates from other newsfeed items to give you more precise organization within your profile. For easier blocking of single apps when they appear, you can use the Facebook Purity plug-in. It will add a Block App link within any app posts that show up within your newsfeed for a one-step cleaning process.
